From Meridian, Mississippi, Dr. Barbara T. McCord received a Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Mississippi and earned her DVM degree for the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1979. She is a member of the Southeastern Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. She also holds a license to practice veterinary medicine in Mississippi. She participates in the annual Jefferson Parish Rabies Campaign.

Dr. McCord lives in River Ridge with her husband, Dr. Robert W. McCord (Internist) and her two daughters, DD and Elizabeth. She has two cats (Chloe and Campbell), one Golden Retriever (Kaya), plus numerous fish. She enjoys sailing, backpacking and fishing.
